Many students that I come into contact with are very excited about the possibilities that the future holds with regard to working together to solve real-world problems in a larger capacity. The Biomedical Engineering program at NYU Tandon provides students with fundamental knowledge and skills that allow them to solve problems that address critical medical needs. Biomedical Engineering, hopefully will develop new therapeutics, diagnoses, or prognoses, new imaging modalities, which hopefully will help in the future. Oh my students, I think they are unique and great! They have all the key ingredients that are the recipe for success. You have the opportunity to take a lot of courses in very diverse areas inside the field like materials and imaging and it gives you a lot of opportunities to explore what you're really looking for in this specific field. Being in the Biomedical Engineering discipline. I have access to these professors who teach you not only what's in the textbook, but, \"This is what's in the textbook and this is how I applied it in industry myself.\" Biomedical Engineering students are also involved in projects that can be done in collaboration with other departments within the Langone School of Medicine. We work on a variety of projects and one particular project utilizes core facilities at both Tandon including a MakerSpace, which houses state-of-the-art equipment including milling machines, 3D printers, high-resolution imaging technologies. Same students also utilize NYU School of Medicine core facilities, including the Genomic Center, Bioinformatics Center, high tech Microscopy Center, as well as the cell sorting. We choose to do cutting-edge research and integrate those research into our teaching so that our students can be at the forefront of development. I collaborate with the NYU Medical School Langone in Dr. Kirsch's lab. My specific research is with cartilage tissue. We're trying to see how do normal cells talk to each other versus diseased cells. Rusk Rehab is an institute that helps patients to regain some availability during a life and live capabilities. The project I'm focusing on is to help visually impaired individuals to regain their maneuverability during the lifetime. With my thesis project, we created a knee sleeve that measures movement at the knee. We worked with the Physical Therapy School with Dr. Smita Rao. Traditional motion capture is expensive, it's time-consuming, you have to go to a lab. But by measuring movement at home. It's cheaper, it's easier, it's quicker, and could be a way for patients and therapists to communicate at home without actually having to go to the office. So during the summer, I did a summer internship in New York Stem Cells Foundation. It's given me a lot of knowledge and also exposed me to a lot of people that helped me to focus on what I want to do after and what I want to do research in. The research we do here at NYU Tandon is directly applied to innovation and medicine, which is exactly what I want to do in my career. It's the most exciting part about being a student here at NYU Tandon. My experience at NYU Tandon was very challenging, but it was also very rewarding and definitely worth all the hard work at the end. If you're looking forward to study Biomedical Engineering, NYU Tandon School of Engineering is the place to be. Our future biomedical engineers will have expertise in both engineering and medicine and they will be able to bridge the gap between engineering innovations and medical needs.
